„Climate protection pays off“

DEG at the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum Bonn

Bruno Wenn, Chairman of DEG’s Board of Management, is one of the panel members of the Workshop “Climate protection pays off” at the Global Media Forum, where Oklaria III, the first private geothermal power plant in Africa, is presented. DEG co-financed this beacon project and arranged the lending to the total amount of more than 100 million US-dollars. The Workshop focuses on the views of journalists from Africa and Germany concerning Olkaria.

What is especially exciting: Beryl Omunya, mobile reporter of “Voices of Africa” in Kenya, presents her documentation on the geothermal power station, which she recorded by mobile phone.

The motto of this year’s international conference of Deutsche Welle is: "The heat is on – climate change and the media“. Around 1,500 participants from over 70 countries will be in Bonn from 21 to 23 June.

Within the scope of the German Development Cooperation, DEG is in charge of private-sector promotion providing capital for the investments of private enterprise in developing and emerging-market countries as well as consultancy services for companies. Olkaria III is one of DEG’s climate protection projects supported with its own funds.

If you wish to see Beryl Omunya’s film about the power plant recorded by mobile phone: “Towards Renewable Energy in Kenya”.
