DEG sponsors German premiere of the AMAZÔNIA exhibition

The AMAZÔNIA exhibition is celebrating its German premiere at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne.

‘AMAZÔNIA - PHOTOGRAPHS BY SEBASTIÃO SALGADO’ is an exhibition dedicated to the Amazon region - the world's largest rainforest - and its indigenous population and has already been visited by almost two million people worldwide. It is celebrating its German premiere at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum (RJM) in Cologne and will be on display from 29 October 2025 to 15 March 2026.

Zurich Insurance is the main global partner of the exhibition tour and is making the exhibition in Cologne possible as part of its German 150th anniversary. DEG and KfW Development Bank as well as TASCHEN Publishing House are sponsors of the exhibition.

The approximately 200 black and white photographs show the diversity of the Amazonian landscapes as well as the faces and realities of life of the indigenous inhabitants. The exhibition also includes interviews with the people portrayed, in which they talk about their relationships with the world and their experiences in the face of the ongoing destruction of their livelihoods. The immersive spatial installation is accompanied by a soundtrack composed for the exhibition by French musician Jean-Michel Jarre.

DEG has been active in Brazil since the mid-1960s. The largest economy in the region is currently showing significant growth, while at the same time challenges such as income inequality and environmental degradation remain. As a sponsor of the AMAZÔNIA exhibition, DEG wants to contribute to drawing attention to the threats posed by climate change and its consequences, which especially impact developing and emerging-market countries. At the same time it wants to strengthen its cultural and civic commitment.
