DEG again a partner of Lit.COLOGNE in 2021

Since 2011, DEG has been co-sponsor of the lit.COLOGNE literature festival, which is to be held for the first time in digital form this year between 26 May and 12 June. A reliable partner, particularly in such challenging times for the culture scene, DEG is continuing its cooperation, thereby making a valuable contribution to the cultural exchange. At 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, 6 June, it will be presenting Bachmann Prize winner Sharon Dodua Otoo, who will be reading from her novel “Adas Raum” (Ada’s Realm).
Sharon Dodua Otoo, a German-British writer, journalist and activist with Ghanaian roots, was awarded the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 2016, having impressed the panel of judges and book-reading public with a story about a rebellious breakfast egg. Her first novel has been eagerly awaited since then and has just been published: in “Adas Raum”, she interweaves the life stories of many different women into a journey through the centuries and across continents. As WDR reviewer Denis Scheck put it: “Otoo’s way of breaking down personal and historical suffering and channelling it into a masterful and sensational narrative construction makes this story a literary adventure”.
Sharon Dodua Otoo’s reading will be live-streamed from Literaturhaus Köln. The event will be moderated by politician Angela Spizig, who is well known to the cultural scene.
