Improve sustainability and corporate governance in companies: new e-learning offering for financial institutions

Junge Frau tippt auf Laptop.

As a development finance institution, DEG is actively committed to establishing and disseminating international environmental, social and corporate governance standards (ESG standards). Companies financed by DEG are subject to comprehensive environmental and social reviews. DEG also supports them in implementing contractually agreed action plans.

For many financial institutions in developing countries, ESG continues to be relatively new territory. Thanks to a new e-learning offering on sustainability and corporate governance, DEG wants to help banks systematically implement these central issues. The web-based platform was developed by Innovativkonzept GmbH in cooperation with ESG experts from DEG, with the support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The target group of these courses are managers and employees in financial institutions who are responsible for sustainability and corporate governance issues. The e-learning courses focus on typical user challenges. Using practical examples, they learn in various modules how to conduct environmental and social reviews, develop an ESG business strategy or improve their environmental and social risk management. This enables the companies they finance to reduce financing costs and make the planning phase of new projects more efficient.

The new web-based offering is aimed at financial institutions. The modules on corporate governance and sustainability reporting can also be used by manufacturing companies or for infrastructure projects. It is planned to further expand the range of courses offered.
