Creating added value for companies in developing markets

Private companies active in developing markets face particular challenges which often require more than just finance. This is why DEG, via its Business Support Services (BSS), supports its customers in boosting growth and the development impact of their business activities in the long term. To this end, it offers both conceptual and financing support.

DEG customer Afriland First Bank (AFB) from Cameroon serves as an example. DEG supported the bank in implementing a business intelligence solution, a reporting tool that analyses all the bank's operating business data. To this end the reporting standard requirements had been developed before a business intelligence solution was selected and successfully implemented. AFB is therefore benefiting from an improved reporting system.

AFB has been a customer of DEG for 25 years.

DEG also provides Business Support Services, both financial and conceptual support, to the insurance company Asian Alliance Insurance (AAI) from Sri Lanka. Together with the Dutch FMO, DEG is contributing to enhancing the skills and knowledge of AAI’s team of in-house actuaries. Even though actuarial expertise is at the heart of the insurance business, Sri Lanka at present only has a handful of fully-qualified actuaries. Enhancing its expertise therefore enables AAI to improve its performance and, at the same time, represents a milestone in Sri -Lanka’s insurance industry.

DEG has been a shareholder of AAI since 2013. Founded in 1999, the insurance company has become one of the leading insurance providers in Sri Lanka.
