DEG sponsor of the Cologne-based music festival "Eight Bridges"

Susanna Baca

DEG is sponsoring a singer-songwriter concert: The event will take place in the Kölner Philharmonie on 5 May 2015, as part of the "Eight Bridges" festival of contemporary music.

The concert by the two artists Susanna Baca and Ana Tijoux is a mixture of music from different continents: Africa, Latin America and Europe. Susana Baca has been a popular figurehead of Peruvian music for decades. Her music is a mixture of traditional Afro-Peruvian music and American jazz. She also incorporates elements of African-influenced Caribbean, North American and Brazilian music.

Ana Tijoux

Hip hop artist Ana Tijoux launches tirades against those causing social injustice and violence. The French-born daughter of exiled Chileans gathers Chilean student protesters behind her to whom her accusatory songs and videos give a voice. In 2014, the rap artist was awarded the Latin Grammy.

The music from the two artists shows to what extent the singer/songwriter music has a political stance all over the world and is thus perfectly in line with the Eight Bridges' 2015 theme "Music.Politics?".

The international top-class festival week takes place from 30 April to 10 May 2015 at different venues throughout Cologne. Since 2013, "Eight Bridges" has been collaborating with the "c/o pop" festival, providing a platform for singer and songwriters from outside Europe.
