DEG has been engaged in China since 1985. To date, the focus is on projects that address environmental and climate protection, as well as supporting German investments. The Beijing office supports DEG’s regional efforts, offering long-term financing, advisory services, and access to development programs.
As one of the world’s most populous countries and the second-largest economy, China plays a central role in the global economy and is therefore a key location for multinational companies. In particular, its well-developed infrastructure and strong innovative capacity contribute to the country’s appeal to investors.
The local partners’ network includes KfW, located in the same building, the German Chamber of Commerce Abroad (AHK), which supports German businesses in navigating the Chinese market; the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and other international development banks such as IFC, ADB, AIIB, Proparco, and IFU.
