DEG finances digital health insurer in Brazil
USD 10 million equity investment in InsurTech Alice to expand healthcare access for SME employees
DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH is providing USD 10 million in equity financing to Brazilian digital health insurer Alice. The total volume of the current round of financing is approximately USD 37 million. The investors also include the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Finnish development finance institution Finnfund.
Through this equity financing, DEG is supporting the continued growth of an innovative healthcare company that provides employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with access to high-quality and affordable healthcare. Alice offers employer-sponsored health insurance combined with a technology-enabled care model focused on strong primary care and early medical intervention.
Founded in 2019, the company already serves more than 100,000 insured members across Brazil. Through digital services and coordinated medical care, Alice helps improve access to healthcare services and increase the efficiency of the healthcare system.
“A high-performing healthcare system is a key prerequisite for sustainable economic development. Through our investment, we are supporting a company that uses digital technologies to make healthcare services more efficient, accessible, and affordable. Employees of small and medium-sized enterprises, in particular, benefit from this approach,” said Gudrun Busch, Head of Division at DEG.
“Our mission is to rethink healthcare and place a stronger focus on prevention and proactive health management. Together with DEG and other international financing institutions, we aim to expand our offering and reach even more people in Brazil,” said André Florence, Co-founder and CEO of Alice.
Through its investment, DEG contributes to the digitalization of Brazil’s healthcare sector and supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
