DEG is promoting the expansion of renewable energy in Türkiye, by providing a USD 80 million loan to Turkish energy company Enerjisa Enerji Üretim A.Ş. (“Enerjisa Üretim”), in which German company E.ON SE is a shareholder. The total financing volume for the syndication, which is being arranged by FMO, the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, is USD 180 million. The Turkish company has been a customer of DEG since 2024.

The new DEG loan will be used to finance three wind energy projects in the province of Muğla in southern Türkiye with a total installed capacity of around 250 MW (“the Project”). The wind turbines for the Project are being supplied by German manufacturer Enercon, based in Aurich. Once completed, the installations will make a substantial contribution to ensuring a sustainable energy supply in the country.

“We at DEG are delighted to continue supporting Enerjisa Üretim in its expansion of renewable energy in Türkiye. With German company E.ON SE involved as a shareholder and German wind turbine technology providing the foundation, the Project combines measurable climate impacts with positive momentum for the local economy, contributing to the transformation of the energy sector – one of DEG’s areas of strategic focus,” said Petra Kotte, DEG’s Global Head of Infrastructure and Energy, on the occasion of the contract signing.

Positive effects for the environment and local value added

The wind energy generated by the Project has the potential to supply approximately 189,000 households with green electricity annually while avoiding emissions of around 221,000 tonnes of CO2. The Project will also strengthen the local economy, for example by generating work for construction and service companies and boosting local employment, as well as reducing Türkiye’s dependence on fossil energy imports.

Expansion of renewable energy in Türkiye

Enerjisa Üretim is the largest private electricity producer in Türkiye with an installed capacity of around 4.6 GW. The company is currently in a phase of strategic transformation towards becoming an independent producer with a focus on renewable energy.

DEG has been working with Enerjisa Üretim since 2024. As part of a large consortium, DEG provided financing for nine onshore wind power plants with a combined capacity of 750 MW under Türkiye’s YEKA-2 renewable energy program. KfW IPEX-Bank is another financier of Enerjisa Üretim’s activities. Through its current financing, DEG is continuing its collaboration and supporting the further expansion of renewable energy production in Türkiye.
