DEG nominated for 2017 German Civic Engagement Award

DEG has been nominated for the 2017 German Civic Engagement Award. The German Civic Engagement Award is the umbrella competition for civic commitment in Germany. Around 600 organisers of regional and national awards for voluntary work can enter their award winners for the competition.

The Award was presented for the first time in 2009 as part of the “Giving gives (Geben gibt)” campaign. The German Civic Engagement Award has now become established as the most important award across Germany for honouring civic engagement.

The City of Cologne, as sponsor of the Cologne Volunteers's Award, nominated DEG this year for the 2017 German Civic Engagement Award.

Distinctions will be given in the following five categories: Creating opportunities, Preserving life, Connecting generations, Overcoming boundaries and Strengthening democracy. A panel of experts will determine the award-winners for these categories, and the awards will be presented in Berlin on 5 December 2017. The people’s choice award will be decided by online voting in autumn.

DEG in its role as development financier is a major force in facilitating sustainable development and creating prospects for people. For 55 years DEG has been a reliable partner to private-sector enterprises investing in developing and emerging-market countries.

However, DEG has also demonstrated its commitment to various target groups in its home-region of Cologne/North Rhine-Westphalia.

For instance, its employees take part in non-profit projects such as those within the framework of the Cologne Volunteers Day. This special event offers staff from Cologne-based companies the opportunity to put their energy and expertise towards supporting non-profit organisations working with children and youth, senior citizens and refugees for a day.
