DEG fosters water efficiency in the Middle East and North Africa
DEG provides a long-term loan of 20 million US-dollars, while IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, provides 50 million US-dollars to Metito. The investment will allow the company to fund water treatment projects in water stressed countries, especially in Egypt, Indonesia and China. This will increase the availability of drinking water, improve wastewater treatment infrastructure, reduce waste costs, and decrease health risks to local communities.
Peter Thimme, Director for Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia at DEG said: “The protection of scarce water resources is a matter of particular concern to DEG.”
Metito, a global provider of water management solutions, is already active in developing the water sector in MENA and China and is expanding further into emerging markets where water scarcity is a major concern.
