Russia is the country with the largest surface area in the world and has an important domestic market thanks to its more than 140 million inhabitants. The country has enormous oil and gas reserves and is a major energy supplier for Europe and Asia.

Since the mid-1990s, DEG has been active in Russia. It opened a representative office in Moscow in 2006. The current portfolio covers about 320 million euros for 24 project companies. So far DEG has provided more than 490 million euros for 60 projects. DEG invests in the finance sector as well as especially in the manufacturing industry, there mainly accompanying German enterprises.
